Original WWII German K98k Mauser rifle cleaning kit contained in its tin dated 1938 and marked G.Appel with small waffenampt. Contains a chain pull-through, 2 x bore brushes, an oiler and a receiver take down tool. Bottom compartment is stamped with the rifle number and contains a piece of oil cloth. Embroidered example of the badge worn by the 77th Indian Brigade and later the 3rd Indian Division - The Chindits. Formed by Orde Wingate in 1942 and fought extensively throughout Burma, often behind Japanese lines.
The name Chindits is a corruption of the word ' Chinthe ' which is the lion-headed pagoda guardian seen throughout Burma and represented by the patch.
